Overview
TruFaves is a social app designed for collecting and sharing favourites within a trusted circle of friends. By removing potential fake reviews and unwanted sponsored ads, it creates a space for authentic recommendations across restaurants, podcasts, books, travel destinations and more.
The Challenge
Most review platforms are cluttered and lack trust, with content often influenced by strangers or commercial interests. The challenge was to design a more personal alternative, where users could share and request favourites in a private, engaging way. I had to ensure that the “create a fave” and “ask for a fave” flows were clear and intuitive without overcomplicating the interface.
The Solution
I mapped the core user journeys and built prototypes around the main sharing flows, refining them through prototyping and feedback. The design direction is a balance of sophisticated and approachable visuals, leaning on familiar social-first patterns and functionality. The experience is designed to invite engagement, making the sharing and browsing of favourites feel effortless.
Create a Fave or just Ask
The key flows of the app are the ‘create a new fave’ and ‘ask for a fave’ functions. These require the most amount of input from the user, guiding then through a stepped process of content creation. This action takes up full prominence within the main navigation and aims to add interest throughout the form.
Design Direction
The brand needed to be sophisticated but approachable, I worked this into the UI using the primary colour palette, elegant typefaces and fun, inspiring imagery. Each flow was carefully considered to maximise the creation and shareability of favourites between friends.
